Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi-low starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same concept in nearly every poker game.

The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complex initially, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming range of betting choices and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high, along with a few shooting for the low hand. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
