Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
