• Omaha Hi-Low: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi low begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some players often get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in almost all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems complex initially, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the base nuances of play with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting array of betting possibilities and because you have several individuals trying for the high hand, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha hi low.
