Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players often get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same concept in just about all poker games.

The low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

While it seems complicated at first, after a few hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming collection of betting choices and because you have numerous individuals battling for the high, along with many trying for the low.
