Omaha Resources
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha Hi-Lo begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in just about all poker games.
A lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 offers an amazing range of betting options and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, and many shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha hi/low.
