Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complex at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of play with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming collection of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, as well as a few trying for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
