Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi/lo starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in just about all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an exciting array of wagering options and seeing that you have numerous players battling for the high, along with a few trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi/low.
