• Omaha Hi-Low: General Outline

    [ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same concept in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at first, following a few hands you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi lo provides an overwhelming assortment of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals shooting for the high, along with many battling for the low hand. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha hi low.
