Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants get confused. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of betting options and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, and several shooting for the low hand. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
