Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The players will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same concept in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting range of wagering choices and because you have numerous individuals battling for the high hand, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
